PLANNED ROAD WORKS FOR RUSDEN ROAD ROUNDABOUT A6, SHARNBROOK 9th to 30th October Road closed overnight

From the Borough Council

We are writing to you to let you know that roadworks are due to start soon on the above roads as part of Bedford Borough Council’s highway works programme.

The works will consist of resurfacing the Rushden Road roundabout A6, Sharnbrook, as follows:

Phase Works/Traffic Management Start Dates End Date Working Times
Resurfacing Works Road Closure 09/10/2025 30/10/2025 Weekdays 20:00 – 06:00

Signs will be put up at the ends of the site which will provide the most up to date information if the programme changes. A signed diversion route via A6, A428, A509 and A45 will be in place during the hours of the road closure.

Due to the nature of the works, we will be unable to provide access once the works are in progress. The A6 will be closed between Riseley Road, Sharnbrook and The Avenue, Bletsoe.

Access to Thurleigh, Riseley, Bletsoe and surrounding villages to the North, for those driving non heavy goods vehicles, will be possible from Riseley Road or The Avenue Bletsoe via North End onto Thurleigh Road.

Please note the following during the works:

  • Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
  • Please be respectful of the workforce and, if you are permitted to drive through the road closure please keep speeds down to a minimum to protect the safety of the workforce.
  • All site vehicles are fitted with reversing beepers and flashing lights so please be careful when approaching the site.
  • The council takes a holistic approach when planning roadworks, unfortunately these works will be disruptive, and some operations are noisy. We apologise for the disruption caused by this essential work but be assured they have been programmed in co-ordination with our Streetworks team to ensure disruption is kept to the minimum. Where works are carried out at night, we aim where possible, to carry out operations which cause the most noise during the earliest hours in the shift to again ensure disruption is kept to the minimum.
  • Before we close the road we may carry out some minor works that may mean that some areas are coned off or temporary traffic lights may be used.

If you wish to discuss working arrangements relating to this project please telephone the Highways Helpdesk on 01234 718003 or email us at highways.helpdesk@bedford.gov.uk. The helpdesk will direct any queries to the relevant officer to respond as appropriate.
